I think I know what you mean.  The software turns out amazing patterns with zero effort, compared to what it would have taken to make them by hand.  So it's very tempting to just let it happen.  Addictive, one might say.  There might be a still, small voice saying the patterns don't mean anything, but that's easily ignored...

The structures I've made with Wings3D play the same role for me, though less spectacularly.
