only your page no others, when I go there it displays as if my monitor is set to 1280x960 or some such. At first I though you were showing a screen shot or somrthing, THe text is like 2 pixels high. Any ideas?

Hee hee, come on, I'm a nice guy.

Anyway I think it is related to the zoom plugin on Firefox but I still can't figure why it is just on your page

Answered my own question, the wings are from "Punk Fantasy" at least approximately.

You did a lot of stuff while I was away. At a glance it looks great, but I'll never catch up if I try to comment in detail. So one word for all of it: Wow!!

I've found a great source about Blender: [link]

I'd seen that before, then for a while it went away, now it's come back greatly improved. A technique I sorta worked out for myself before turns out to have a name: Box Modelling, as in the frog model. He shows some tricks that solve some problems I ran into before. Main thing for me now, though, is Python scripting for Blender. There are a lot of Python scripts for importing/exporting to other formats. Don't see anything for POV, though :( Maybe I should write something for that myself. But you can export to Google Earth and Second Life. I'm gonna have a ball...

Yes, they are from Punk Fantasy. I redid the morphs. I used the new mesh deform modifier for the "curve" mophs - it's nice, better than lattice, for this application anyway. I had a hard time with distortion, especailly flattening of the tubes, when the morphs were applied. They still flatten if you apply multiple morphs, but better than I had them before.

There is a script called Blend2POV, I never used it. I looked at it once, but I use PoseRay, it seems more straight forward to me.

Thanks for the blanket Wow!!

Ew, I took a quick look at Blend2POV, and already I don't like it. The guy packs it in a .rar file, which is a proprietary format, I believe, and it forces him to do a different version for each OS. Unclean. I'll give some thought to a pure Python utility that will be cross-platform. It won't be the first thing I work on, though.

Python scripts can be set up to be called from within Blender as if they were built-in operations. You wouldn't know that's what they are except for the Python icon that shows up. That much I know, I just don't know yet how to make it happen.

Yeah, I'm not sure how that's done either. I think I tried breifly to figure it out once, and gave up.

Hey, I did it!

The key is just the filename of the script. I made a copy of the script add_mesh_torus.py in the scripts directory and called it add_mesh_newthingy.py, and when I fired up Blender again, there was a new item in the Add > Mesh menu -- Newthingy! And it works! -- adds a torus. Now presumably I can edit it to add some new kind of mesh.

Life is good...

I do know how to make a script show up in the list of callable scripts: Have to include a triple-quoted string giving a category and a name etc. Don't know how to add a new category. There are a lot of scripts in those lists by default, so I expect to learn a lot from them.

I worry that some functionality in Blender may not be "exposed" in the Blender or bpy modules. But some stuff may be fairly easy to re-implement in Python. I may have the extra joy of adding some things to the Blender source and trying to get the powers that be to incorporate them in the official versions.

There's another worry, that there may be clashes between POV and Blender, so that there is just no reasonable way to export some things to POV. Don't know of anything like that yet.

As long as its mesh (not NURBS, curves, meta balls...), you can get it into POV-Ray. Alt-C will convert an object to mesh in Blender.

Cool. POV-Ray has metaballs, I think. Don't know about the others. I don't think Blender has isosurfaces. (May have the name wrong. Surfaces where a given function is equal to zero.)

Actually it will be nice if the only incompatibilities are object types. I worry about messier incompatibilities. Can't give an example. Unknown unknowns...

POV calls metaballs blobs, but I wouldn't know how they are converted from Blender to POV.

Correction, it seems he's made a special version of Blender by editing Blender source code. Everything I learn about it makes it worse. But that must be why he needs to make a different version for each OS.

I can see I have a lot to learn about Blender. Don't even know what "lattice" is about, though of course I know the common meaning of the word. I can see how it might be hard to get good results by applying an overall operation to a shape that twists and turns. Maybe there's a programmatic way to select loop contours and scale them one by one.

Thanks for the tip re Blend2POV. I'll take a look, and sooner or later I'll probably know enough to improve on it.

Impressive. Smart this, automatic that. What is involved in making that happen? Do you have to script it? What language?

The wings ring a bell, have you posted something like them before?

It's just a one line change in the Poser file from parent UNIVERSE to smartparent chest. Poser does the "smart" work. :D
