Spherical Bipolar Scripts by parrotdolphin Spherical Bipolar Scripts by parrotdolphin
These scripts require the Apophysis bipolar Plugin, which you can get here:
[link]

The scripts make use of xaos - heaps of thanks to :iconshortgreenpigg: for knowing how to do xaos settings in a script.

The zip file contains 2 scripts.
SBP - generates a single flame.
SBP Batch - generates a list of flames.

The output from SPB Batch is saved to your Apophysis install directory as pd_SBP.flame.

If you like one of the images, save it someplace else, because the script will overwrite the pd_SBP.flame file the next time it is run.

You can try moving the first (red) transform around in the Transform Editor to get tons of different effects.

Enjoy!

And show me your stuff if you want to, I like to see. :)

EDIT 01/16/09 - I got rid of the glitch, so now you don't have to run a random batch in between. (Thanks iDeviant ;)) I also randomized the bipolar and bipolar_shift a bit - I think its better this way. So, if you've already downloaded this script, you can download again now to get this newer version.

Here is a beautiful example of this script in use [link] by :iconamorinaashton:

Yes, you need it, unless you already have it. :D You can also get it out of this one: [link] It has a ton of other plugins too. Hope that helps.

Well, I have to say that I can't get anything decent out of this script at all. I have moved all the xforms around and switched between the different variations. Still nothing.

Are you using 2.08 or 2.08 3D Hack? It is meant for just 2.08 (not 3D hack).

Hmmm. I must be doing something wrong, then. I'll have another go and see what happens. Maybe I'm missing a plugin or something. Not surprising for a technological retard!

It's not my plugin. Just the script is mine. Do you have Apophysis 2.08 installed? If you do, just put the bipolar.dll plugin into a folder called Plugins underneath your Apophysis folder. To run the script go to the Menu bar, Scripts... Open... Open the script.
Then you just hit the green arrow or hit the F9 button.

You can just create a folder called Plugins underneath the folder that you run Apophysis from. Then when you download the plugins, just put them in the Plugins folder you created and then run Apo. If it's all good, you should see the new plugins in the Variations tab in the Transform Editor.
F9 just runs the current script. :)

Xaos is a new feature in Apophysis 2.08. One of the developers describes it in his journal here: [link]

Cool. Here's another Xaos, I think it's the one I played with.

They don't seem to be related, except through the idea of chaos.

Not sure it's a great idea to use a common noun in its common spelling as the name of something, because it can lead to situations like that. Microsoft does that sort of thing all the time, viz "windows", "office", ".net" etc. Makes it hard to google "windows" and get references to the kind of windows that have glass in them....

I take advantage of that, using "Lorem Ipsum" as my "real" name. One day I'll find an opportunity to use "Al Dente" as my "real" name.

I found a way around that glitch for one of my own unreleased scripts! I use a sufficiently large random number suffix:

suff := trunc(random*1000000);
for j := 0 to Options.BatchSize - 1 do
begin
ShowStatus(';Processing ' + IntToStr(j + 1) + ' of ' + IntToSTr(Options.BatchSize));
.
.
main script commands
.
.
SaveFlame(INSTALLPATH + prefix_' + DateCode + '-' + Format('%.6d', [suff]) + '.flame';);
end;
ListFile(INSTALLPATH + prefix_' + DateCode + '-' + Format('%.6d', [suff]) + '.flame';);
UpdateFlame := False;

I seem to think that I searched in vain for a 'TimeCode' parameter :D
Note that the wink/razz is P and the wink is ) :rofl: Best not to insert any extra spaces!

Well, I played more and also looked at the script here: [link]
So, if I do this:
//LoadFlame(j);
RandomFlame(0);
...take out the LoadFlame line and add the RandomFlame line then it works and picks a random gradient.
I also added the bit about if FileExists that the script in the link has. That way it only tries to delete it if it's there. Not sure if that actually helps, but it looks cleaner, code-wise.

Ah, that looks like a useful tip, even though the use of the same gradient never bothered me as I always change it anyway. Perhaps a useful resource would be a set of batch script 'wrappers', including one that saves, one that behaves like the Ctrl-B, and whatever else is possible...

True that you usually change the gradient. I like the idea of the random gradient in a batch run since it adds another variable. I write batch scripts as a way of automating experimentation with a certain style. So, the more variables, the better, up to a certain point.

Thanks iDeviant. This works. But then I get a new file saved every time I run the script. I don't want to create a new file every time. I'd like it to work the same as the default batch script. I did add the ShowStatus part - I like that. :) Now I am trying it without the LoadFlame(j); line and it seems to work. I have to really be sure though. The other weird thing it that it used to pick up a random gradient for each flame and now it keeps using the same one. :shrug:
